Spiritually Speaking– January 2012
And so it dawns – 2012. Will it be just like the coming of the new millennium – a real ho hum, non event? There are so many books, articles, and movies that have been released about this year. What do you think? Are you a little afraid, a bit skeptical, a tad bit excited for the “Shift” that’s supposed to be coming this year, culminating on December 21?
For myself, I think of this Shift primarily in terms of raising our human consciousness, and I get very excited for what it can mean for all of us. Could this be a turning point for humanity and our planet? Is this when we will finally get that love is more powerful than fear and hate? …that cooperation rather than competition is the way of natural evolution? …that this three dimensional world we are so attached to is just a beginning stage of development for life in our universe? Like Dr. Suess, I want to proclaim “Oh, the places we’ll go!”

Unity is the "Seekers" home. Offering a positive, practical,
progressive approach to spirituality, honoring the universal
truths in all religions and respecting each individual's right to
choose a spiritual path that fulfills their unique lifestyle.
We encourage people to explore, express and empower themselves without the traditional outer layers of a defined doctrine or denomination.
Different ages, different colors, different backgrounds,
different places on our spiritual paths. But we all come together for the same reasons -
Unity Board of Directors 2010-2011
Rev. Cheryl Rohret came to Unity Spiritual Life Center in the summer of 2005. One week she marked the 25th anniversary of her ordination as a Presbyterian minister. The very next week she said “Yes” to becoming the Spiritual Leader for Unity in Yakima. After completing Unity’s Field Licensing Program, she was ordained as a Unity minister in April of 2010. For Cheryl, Unity provided the positive path for spiritual growth and inclusiveness she had been seeking for years. She has found her spiritual home
at Unity in Yakima.

Sandwiches for the Homeless
The first Sunday of every month about twenty people from four churches came together to make sandwiches for homeless people in our area. The four churches working on this are United Christian, Unitarian Universalist, Rainbow Cathedral MCC, and Unity Spiritual Life Center.
We have a jar out during coffee fellowship on Sundays to collect donations for supplies for our next hosting.
If you would like to send a check to help, just mark it for “Sandwiches”.
We have a sign up sheet in the Fellowship Hall and ask that at least three people from our congregation help each time. Thank you for reaching out to hungry people in our community. This is truly “Love in Action.”
